Published: Monday, May 18, 2009

Buyers of San Diego foreclosures got a big helping hand getting to and from their new homes this week when the San Diego County Association of Governments (SANDAG) awarded nearly $10 million in highway transportation grants to fund transit improvements. Lemon Grove, Chula Vista, San Diego and other cities throughout the county received the funds from SANDAG Board, which administers the funds collected by an additional 1/2 cent sales tax approved by voters.

The funds couldn't come at a better time, considering how buyers of Chula Vista foreclosures and bank homes in San Diego are flocking to San Diego County, thanks to historic low interest rates and large numbers of foreclosures in San Diego County on the market. Earmarked for transit programs that will enhance development various portions of the county, these funds will most likely be used for rail hubs, commuter transit lanes and other programs that enhance livability in San Diego.

San Diego Foreclosures Buyers Likely to See Shorter Commutes

Once the entire $10 million has been spent and transit projects constructed buyers of foreclosures in San Diego will likely see shorter commutes and enhanced quality of life. Homeowners regularly cite length of commute and traffic conditions as a key factor in selecting their new homes and it is anticipated these Smart Growth funds will help several communities that are attracting new residents through the purchase of quality San Diego bank homes.
